In February 2009, our parent Donald Melville, a senior martial exponent, invited his teacher Sifu Salih Avci to train the Indian Police Force and Commandos in Escrima and Unarmed Combat techniques. Sifu means father and master in Japanese. Under the roof organisation of Wing Tsun Escrima International Organisation, Sifu Avci teaches in more than 100 schools across Europe. He has an illustrious history of training the Police Force of France, Sudan, Germany, Turkey etc. On 27 February, he came to MGIS and gave a demonstration for the students. This was followed by an animated discussion on personal security measures. Our student, Janvi Karwal trained under him during his stay in Ahmedabad.
